Congrats to TEAM Miller’s in LaGrange, Indiana

Have a wonderful July 4th celebration!
July 3rd, 2010The 4th of July gives us an opportunity to celebrate the great country we live in, and as always, I’m reminded that there’s no place I’d rather live and work. Even though our country may not be perfect, no one can deny that we are most blessed to live with such liberties. As someone once said, “Freedom is nothing else but a chance to be better,” so, this week as we remember the freedom we love, I hope we’ll each commit to continuing to learn and grow, and become the very best we can be.
Happy 4th of July!

Celebrating National Nursing Home Week
May 11th, 2010
This is National Nursing Home Week and in honor of it, there are celebrations and special events going on throughout our company, and around the country. The American Healthcare Association chose “Enriching Every Day” as the theme for this year’s events, and this is a great reminder to all of us—regardless of our age or where we’re located—that every day is a gift that we are given, and we have the opportunity to make something good out of it. Many of the individuals we care for here at Miller’s have experienced a set-back in their health; have needed surgery or possibly rehabilitation due to an injury. While it might be easy to become discouraged in this situation, instead the vast majority of these folks accept the challenge and work with their doctors, staff and therapists to get stronger and better. Their determination inspires all of us. It’s matched only by the determination of the staff members who are working diligently to help them achieve their goals.
Happy National Nursing Home Week! I hope you’ll make each day great.
Sincerely,
Patrick Boyle,
President / CEO
Voting, Tuesday - May 4th
May 3rd, 2010As we continue to learn about healthcare reform and many other key issues, now more than ever, it will be critical for us to have the best people possible representing us, our families and our businesses in all areas of our government. Please make sure that you do your part on May 4th and vote. Not only is it a privilege to have a part in determining who will lead us, but it is also our responsibility as citizens.

Happy Doctor’s Day
March 31st, 2010March 30th is Doctors’ Day and I want to take a moment to recognize the physicians we work with in communities all around the State. We appreciate their dedication to our residents, and it is a pleasure to work together with them and their office staff to care for our State’s seniors.

Healthcare Reform
March 25th, 2010This past weekend, the House of Representatives passed historic legislation that will change the way our country’s healthcare system operates. All of the media attention has left us with conflicting messages about the reform. For many, this legislation represents the answer to some of their greatest needs. For others, it brings fear and anger. There is no doubt that it is time for a number of components of the country’s current healthcare delivery system to be closely examined, and in some cases, overhauled. However, accomplishing these important changes while still maintaining stability for patients and employees will be a tremendous challenge.
It’s important to make sure that “the Greatest Generation”—the population that we have typically served—continues to receive the care that they have earned and deserve. At Miller’s, we will continue to be diligent to speak up for this great generation and to let our elected officials know that it must do their part in providing for them. Our goal as we engage in healthcare reform is to take a lesson from the ones we care for, and never forget what is most important and worth fighting for.
Thank you,
Patrick Boyle,
President & CEO

Merry Christmas!
December 28th, 2009President’s Viewpoints
It’s hard to believe that it’s almost Christmas and that very quickly we’ll be closing out another year. 2009 has been far from boring, and as we look back on this year, we could easily focus on the things that have captured the daily headlines – like our economy or government-run healthcare. While it’s true that these topics are very important and will shape the way we do business in the future, before we jump ahead into a new year with all these challenges, I think it is just as important to look back and consider all the good things from this last year.
So during this Christmas season, as we consider our many gifts and blessings, here’s part of the list that I thank the Lord for each day: I am thankful for my family; I am thankful for my health; I am thankful to have a job and to work for a great employee-owned company; I am thankful and honored to work for 3,000 employee-owners; I am grateful to our residents and their families; I am thankful for the Medical staffs around the State for allowing us to care for their patients in our facilities; and I am thankful to live in a country where we can agree, disagree, and work together to make the best life possible for our families, residents and employees.
As we look forward to the upcoming year, together as the owners of our company, we will need to lean on our Core Values as much as we ever have. While it may feel as if everything around us is changing, our Core Values of Passion, Integrity, Growth, Stewardship and Adaptation stay the same. Specifically, we’ll need to rely on Adaptation to be our guide for 2010. We’ll learn to fine tune our jobs so we can meet the changes that we’re presented with, and we’ll continue to tell our story to our legislators, looking for ways to help meet their budgetary demands without compromising the important work we do. When it’s all done, if we stay focused, we’ll have sorted through and found the things that are really important to us, and we’ll have gotten stronger in the process.
When next Christmas comes and we make a list of our blessings for the year, I believe we’ll be able to look back and find that we are blessed in more unexpected ways than we could have imagined.
May you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and let’s work together to make 2010 a Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Patrick Boyle
